TRAMA
In un mondo non definito nel tempo e nello spazio Zak e Marie si incontrano da bambini (i bambini della scuola che frequentano hanno tutti nomi di scienziati famosi, lui si chiama in realtà Isaac Newton e lei Marie Curie). Zak si innamora subito di Marie ma lei non ricambia, almeno apparentemente, perché una differenza basilare glielo impedisce. Lei corrisponde a una 'frequenza' altissima, lui bassissima: sono perciò incompatibili e se si incrociano per più di un minuto scatenano eventi violenti e assurdi. Inoltre, mentre la frequenza bassissima di lui si concretizza in un'estrema passionalità, nel caso di Marie è lei stessa a definirsi "The Machine", perché non prova emozioni (nemmeno nei confronti dei suoi familiari) e per mascherare questa incapacità finge costantemente, prendendo appunti sulle emozioni altrui e facendo esperimenti. Anni dopo, quando si rincontrano da adulti, lui ha scoperto un metodo per farle 'cambiare' la frequenza, nella speranza che questo cominci a farle provare qualcosa (ovviamente nella speranza che lei finalmente lo corrisponda). Qualcosa però in questo loro esperimento andrà oltre le iniziali intenzioni, in un gioco che lega scienza e attrazione e di cui diventeranno artefici e vittime.

La signora Dorval era una donna dall'animo buono il cui corpo è stato ritrovato di fronte alla basilica di Saint-Nazaire a Carcassonne con una mano mozzata. L'ispettore Angélique Demange viene assegnata al caso, nel quale è coadiuvata dall'ex marito, Raphael Leprince. Le registrazioni effettuate dalle telecamere della basilica lasciano intravedere il killer, incappucciato, fuggire via e si scorge che al collo porta la croce dell'ordine dei cavalieri templari. Il caso riporta alla mente di Angélique la scomparsa della sua migliore amica Hélène. Ben presto, risalire alla verità sull'omicidio diventerà un caso di vita o di morte: Angélique e Raphael dovranno scoprire il colpevole prima che la donna stessa si trasformi nella prossima vittima.

Trama:

Dopo aver fatto l'amore insieme per la prima volta durante una selvaggia notte al college, Lainey e Jake si separano. I loro cammini si incrociano nuovamente anni dopo ed entrambi si rendono conto che quella debosciata serata ha avuto effetti drastici sulle rispettive vite sessuali: mentre Jake è divenuto un donnaiolo, Lainey è sempre bloccata con la persona sbagliata.
