Nojoom, che in yemenita significa "le stelle", ha un destino segnato fin dalla nascita: suo padre infatti cambia il suo nome in Nojoud, ovvero "nascosta", e pur amandola consegna sua figlia alle regole non scritte della convivenza nello Yemen, che comportano una totale sudditanza delle femmine rispetto ai maschi. Quando Njoud compie 10 anni il padre, in una negoziazione condotta solo fra uomini, la dà in sposa a un uomo che ha almeno trent'anni più di lei. Lo sposo promette al suocero di prendersi cura della bambina e di aspettarne la pubertà prima di consumare il matrimonio, ma appena sottratta alla casa del padre la violenta e la costringe a servire la suocera, picchiandola quando la bimba disobbedisce. Per fortuna Nojoom/Nojoud è uno spirito indomito e trova la via di fuga dal villaggio arcaico in cui l'ha segregata il marito per recarsi al tribunale di Sana'a, dove chiederà per sé il divorzio.
La sposa bambina è l'esordio al lungometraggio di finzione di Khadija Al Salami, regista e produttrice yemenita istruita in Francia e Stati Uniti, e si basa sul romanzo autobiografico di Nojoud Ali, scritto insieme alla giornalista Delphine Minoui. La storia che racconta è in qualche misura autobiografica anche per la regista, andata in sposa a 11 anni ad un uomo di oltre vent'anni più grande, dal quale Khadija ha trovato il coraggio di affrancarsi. La conoscenza profonda dei luoghi e della mentalità che Al Salami racconta rendono La sposa bambina un documento autentico nel rappresentare una pratica retrograda come il matrimonio infantile (oltre che combinato).
Ma la regista non commette l'errore di semplificare la storia, e rende giustizia sia alla complessità della società yemenita (la stessa che ha dato i natali all'attivista premio Nobel per la pace Tawakkol Karman) che alle oggettive difficoltà cui tentano di sopravvivere i suoi abitanti più poveri. A questo scopo Al Salami costruisce una sceneggiatura stratificata che inizia nel presente, ripercorre il passato e poi ci fa rivedere quello stesso passato dal punto di vista del padre, senza giustificarne le scelte ma contestualizzandone le motivazioni. Tutta la famiglia di Nojoom/Nojoud è vittima della miseria, dell'ignoranza e di imposizioni sociali che perpetuano nei più deboli e disinformati una situazione di iniquità. In quest'ottica anche il collaborazionismo femminile, che perpetua l'oppressione di madre in figlia, trova una sua cornice e una sua spiegazione.
Le figure maschili e femminili sono disegnate in maniera articolata e rappresentano livelli diversi di consapevolezza e di emancipazione. Al centro c'è Nojoom che, come Malala, fa la storia rifiutandosi di soccombere alle restrizioni che reprimono il suo genere e la sua giovane età. La conclusione è pesantemente didascalica, ma se anche solo uno spettatore o spettatrice appartenente a quel mondo avrà modo di ascoltarla troverà le armi concettuali e dialettiche per difendersi da chi ammanta di religiosità il proprio desiderio di supremazia e la propria brama di potere.

COMMENTO

Stavolta i protagonisti, nel 50 a.C., si trovano alle prese con... l’espansione edilizia. La nuova trovata di Giulio Cesare per ridurre all’obbedienza il villaggio dell’Armonica che ancora si ribella all’occupazione della Gallia riguarda infatti la costruzione di un quartiere residenziale per i nobili romani. Si chiama “Il Regno degli dei” e rappresenta un laborioso e ambizioso progetto ideato per tentare i “ribelli” con il lusso e le agiatezze dei conquistatori.
Questa volta lo scontro tra culture non avviene propriamente sul campo di battaglia ma attraverso tattiche ben più sottili e sofisticate. La pellicola, diretta da Louis Clichy e Alexandre Astier, si conferma al passo con le aspettative perché si rivela un crescendo narrativo di colpi di scena, dialoghi scoppiettanti e personaggi irresistibili. Risate a volontà, certamente, ma anche un pizzico d’inaspettato sentimentalismo.

Nel suo viaggio intorno al mondo per raccontare persone e luoghi invisibili ai più, dopo l'India dei barcaioli (Boatman), il deserto americano dei drop-out (Below Sea Level), il Messico dei killer del narcotraffico (El Sicario - Room 164), la Roma del Grande Raccordo Anulare (Sacro Gra), Gianfranco Rosi è andato a Lampedusa, nell'epicentro del clamore mediatico, per cercare, laddove sembrerebbe non esserci più, l'invisibile e le sue storie. Seguendo il suo metodo di totale immersione, Rosi si è trasferito per più di un anno sull'isola facendo esperienza di cosa vuol dire vivere sul confine più simbolico d'Europa raccontando i diversi destini di chi sull'isola ci abita da sempre, i lampedusani, e chi ci arriva per andare altrove, i migranti. Da questa immersione è nato Fuocoammare. Racconta di Samuele che ha 12 anni, va a scuola, ama tirare con la fionda e andare a caccia. Gli piacciono i giochi di terra, anche se tutto intorno a lui parla del mare e di uomini, donne e bambini che cercano di attraversarlo per raggiungere la sua isola. Ma non è un'isola come le altre, è Lampedusa, approdo negli ultimi 20 anni di migliaia di migranti in cerca di libertà. Samuele e i lampedusani sono i testimoni a volte inconsapevoli, a volte muti, a volte partecipi, di una tra le più grandi tragedie umane dei nostri tempi.

Alcuni anni prima dell'inizio della storia una fata, sotto le mentite spoglie di una vecchia mendicante, fa visita al castello di un giovane principe chiedendogli ospitalità per la notte, offrendogli una rosa in cambio. Quando il ragazzo la respinge, disgustato dall'aspetto della donna, la fata si rivela e lo punisce per il suo comportamento superficiale, trasformandolo in una bestia mostruosa e lanciando un incantesimo sul castello e su tutti gli abitanti in esso, rendendolo tetro e trasformando la servitù in oggetti animati.

Belle is a girl who is dissatisfied with life in a small provincial French town, constantly trying to fend off the misplaced "affections" of conceited Gaston. The Beast is a prince who was placed under a spell because he could not love. A wrong turn taken by Maurice, Belle's father, causes the two to meet.

Il film vede come protagonisti due amanti apparentemente normali, Adam ed Eve, che poco dopo l'inizio del film si rivelano essere vampiri.
